Polydor Teen Pop 137417 Editorial Review
**** The “Sound of the Underground” album by Girls Aloud serves as a captivating entry point into the world of contemporary British pop music, showcasing a blend of vibrant tracks that define the group's early sound. With infectious beats and catchy rhythms reminiscent of the 80s synth/electro-pop era, this debut album successfully introduces Girls Aloud as more than just a reality TV girl group; it establishes them as formidable contenders in the pop genre. Listeners frequently highlight standout tracks like “Sound Of The Underground” and “No Good Advice” for their engaging energy, while other songs such as “Life Got Cold” and “Some Kind Of Miracle” showcase a sultrier, more mature side of the group. Though critics also note that the album may not reach the heights of their later releases, it still resonates with charm and fervor, appealing especially to dedicated fans of pop music. Fans express gratitude for the album, with reviews citing the feisty attitude of the group and their ability to create enjoyable pop anthems that remain timeless. While some believe that not every track excels, the overall reception suggests a satisfaction with the group’s musical style and their capacity to bring fun and excitement back into pop music. This blend of solid production, youthfulness, and the skillful combination of various musical elements make "Sound of the Underground" a noteworthy record for anyone seeking a taste of early 2000s British pop. **
