Customer Questions & Answers

  • Question: What is included in 'The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition' kit?

Answer: The Elf on the Shelf kit includes a charming boy scout elf with blue eyes, an artfully illustrated storybook, and a keepsake box. The elf helps families celebrate the Christmas season by keeping an eye on children's behavior and reporting back to Santa. This interactive experience fosters imagination and magical traditions during the holidays. Parents can use the elf to encourage good behavior and spark excitement for Christmas festivities.
  • Question: How does the Elf on the Shelf tradition work?

Answer: The Elf on the Shelf tradition involves placing the elf in different locations each day leading up to Christmas. The elf observes children's behavior and flies back to the North Pole each night to report to Santa. This creates an engaging and magical experience for kids, who will look forward to discovering the elf's new hiding spots daily. The tradition not only builds anticipation for Christmas but also encourages children to be on their best behavior throughout the season.
  • Question: Can you personalize the Elf on the Shelf?

Answer: While the official Elf on the Shelf kits come with a fixed character, many families choose to create a unique backstory for their elf, giving them personalized names and traits. This adds an extra layer of fun and engagement to the tradition. Families can even write letters from the elf, enhancing the interactive experience and making the elf feel like part of the family, thus deepening the magical essence of the Christmas season.
  • Question: What age group is the Elf on the Shelf suitable for?

Answer: The Elf on the Shelf tradition is designed for children ages 3 and up. It's particularly engaging for preschool and early elementary-aged children, who are most likely to believe in the magic of Santa Claus. However, older children may also enjoy the storytelling aspect and can participate in guiding younger siblings through the tradition, fostering family bonding and shared holiday experiences.
  • Question: Is the Elf on the Shelf safe for kids?

Answer: Yes, the Elf on the Shelf is made from safe materials and is designed with child safety in mind. There are no small parts that could pose a choking hazard, ensuring that children can play with the elf comfortably. Parents appreciate the focus on imaginative play without safety concerns, allowing kids to enjoy the magic of the elf while parents can rest assured about their children's safety.
  • Question: How can I incorporate the Elf into my family's holiday traditions?

Answer: You can integrate the Elf on the Shelf into various family traditions, such as reading the accompanying storybook together each night, creating a special 'elf breakfast' on Christmas morning, or involving the elf in holiday activities like crafting Christmas decorations. This versatility allows families to customize their experience, making the elf a cherished part of their unique holiday traditions, enhancing the bonding experience.
  • Question: Where can I find additional Elf on the Shelf accessories?

Answer: Various retailers offer additional Elf on the Shelf accessories, such as outfits, props, and themed activities that can enhance your elf's experience. These items can help to spark creativity and keep the holiday magic fresh each year. Parents appreciate expanding the fun beyond the standard kit, fostering a rich, imaginative environment that children will look forward to during the holiday season.
  • Question: Are there different versions of the Elf on the Shelf available?

Answer: Yes, there are multiple versions of the Elf on the Shelf available, including different elf characters with varying eye colors and outfits. Additionally, some special editions might be released for various themes or holidays. This diversity allows families to choose a character that resonates with them and to create a unique holiday experience tailored to their preferences, making holiday traditions more personal.
  • Question: Do you need to set the Elf on the Shelf up each night?

Answer: Yes, the essence of the Elf on the Shelf tradition is to move the elf each night to a new location. This movement creates excitement and anticipation for children, as they look forward to finding the elf in a different spot each morning. While this may seem like extra work for parents, it is often seen as a joyful part of the holiday season, encouraging creativity and fun in daily routines.
