DVD Editorial Review

The Flowers of Evil: Complete Collection is an anime series that has received mixed reviews. While some have found it to be thought-provoking, emotionally-rendered, and artistically resonant, there have been others who have found it to be slow, uncomfortable, and awkward. The series is based on the poetry of Charles Baudelaire and follows the story of Takao Kasuga, a boy who sees himself as much more sophisticated than his peers and becomes embroiled in a sexually-motivated blackmail plot. The animation is done in a rotoscope style, with occasionally hyper-realistic backdrops that help convey the realism of the characters.
