The book is celebrated for its comprehensive exploration of the series' history, offering not just a treasure chest of information but also visually stunning artwork that has defined Zelda's unique aesthetic. Readers have lauded the intricate details surrounding each title in the series, from the original Zelda on NES to recent offerings, showcasing the evolution of gameplay and storytelling. A particularly praised feature is the carefully crafted timeline that illuminates the often convoluted chronology of the Zelda universe, allowing for a deeper understanding of the interwoven narratives and characters across various games. Interviews with the game creators and never-before-seen sketches add invaluable insights into the development process, making this book a compelling read for both newcomers and longtime fans. The inclusion of production artwork enhances the reading experience, offering a visual treat for those who appreciate the artistic direction behind the games. Critics have suggested that while the book is informative, it lacks detailed introductions of some artists and key staff involved in the early titles, along with missing information about Capcom's role in the Oracle games.
